BC NDP’s support still ahead of Liberals’: poll

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Premier John Horgan’s BC NDP Party is still leading the pack, when it comes to voter support across the province.

According to a new poll by Mainstreet Research, the party has 36 per cent support among decided and leaning voters, which is about five points ahead of the BC Liberals.

“They’re certainly continuing to appeal and maintain their base, with what they’re doing,” says pollster Quito Maggi.

Maggi says the BC NDP is well ahead of its opponents in Metro Vancouver, barely leading the Green Party on Vancouver Island, and just two points up on the BC Liberals in the rest of the province.

He adds there seems to be a bit of a resurgance for the BC Conservative Party.

Among decided voters, the Conservatives have 10 per cent support across BC, but Maggi tells us, “it’s at 15 per cent in the rest of BC, outside the Lower Mainland and [Vancouver] Island.”

“That’s having a real impact on the voter intentions. But, of course, we know the BC Conservatives are still in disarray,” he adds.

Maggi says it’s unclear what will happen to that support when we get close to the next provincial election, which is set for 2021.
