Special weather statement issued for Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Winter may be over, but there’s still a chance we could see some wintery weather.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley.

“We have been tracking this system all week — and now it’s upon us, bringing rain and gusty winds,” says NEWS 1130 Meteorologist Russ Lacate.

“But that’s not the whole story. The colder air moves in aloft, late in the day. So, you’ll also find a risk of thundershowers in this forecast by this evening, not to mention a risk of sleet or wet snow over higher terrain tonight and Friday,” he adds.

The special weather statement says a few centimetres of snow could fall over higher terrain and inland areas. It adds that hail is possible near Vancouver Island.
