Pre-teen, woman dead after snowmobile tour near Golden

GOLDEN (NEWS 1130) – Mounties in Golden confirm an 11-year-old girl and a 35-year-old woman have died in the Kootenays backcountry.
According to the RCMP, the pair –who are believed to be from Miami, Florida– were part of a guided snowmobile tour. Cst. Spencer Lainchbury says Golden RCMP were notified about a “snowmobile incident” in the backcountry just after noon.
“We’re still investigating the exact nature of the incident but I can confirm it wasn’t an avalanche,” he tells NEWS 1130.
There’s no word on whether weather conditions played a role.
Police are still on-scene, and are providing few other details at this time.
