How will the Canucks fare on the ice without the Sedins?

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – There’s no reason to hit the panic button once the Sedins retire, at least according to one hockey watcher.

Mira Laurence with Sportsnet 650’s Starting Lineup says the pressure will fall on the young guns.

“Bo Horvat’s not a kid anymore. He’s not a rookie. He’s been around for a few years, and I think Horvat knows what was coming to him and that he will have to step into a leadership role,” says Mira.

“He’s been around the Sedins long enough — he called them legends — so, he’s going to be able to step into that leadership role and there are enough veterans on this team that they’re going to be able to survive just fine without Daniel and Henrik Sedin. Is it going to be an adjustment, not having the twins in the dressing room? Of course, it is.”

Eyes will also be on the likes of Brock Boeser and Adam Gaudette.

“Brock Boeser doesn’t look like any pressure really bothers him at all. Here he is, in his rookie season, leading the team in scoring,” she adds.

Mira says fans should be ready for a few more losing seasons, but there’s no reason to throw out your Canucks’ jersey.

“When we look into the future of what’s in the talent pool with Elias Pettersson coming in next year — who knows what’s going to happen in the draft. Yes, it’s a long shot that the Canucks are going to get Rasmus Dahlin. But there are goal scorers that are coming through the system — Adam Gaudette is already up. So, there are young guys that are going to be able to score.”

Mira notes players knew this day was coming, and they’ve been preparing.

The team has three games left with the Sedins. The Canucks take on the Vegas Golden Knights tonight and Arizona Coyotes on Thursday at Rogers Arena. Their final game of the season — and the twins’ careers — is on Saturday in Edmonton.
