Ten counts of first degree murder against Toronto van attack suspect

TORONTO (NEWS 1130) – The suspect in the deadly van attack in Toronto has been charged with 10 counts of first-degree murder.

Alek Minassian, 25, has also been charged with 13 counts of attempted murder.

 

Ten people were killed and 15 others were hurt after a van plowed into pedestrians in the area of Yonge Street near Finch Avenue East.

Minassian, 25, appeared in a packed courtroom this morning.

The judge told Minassian that he will remain in custody, to which the suspect responded “yes” in a loud, clear voice.

Police arrested Minassian less than half an hour after the incident, which took place at 1:30 p.m. Eastern on Monday.

A motive for the horrific attack is not yet clear.
