Suspicious death, car fire in Surrey may be related

SURREY (NEWS 1130) – Homicide investigators have a lot of work ahead of them in Surrey.

A vehicle was found burned in one neighbourhood, just after a body was discovered in another. Police admit the two crime scenes could be related.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team says a body was found on 12th Avenue near 176 Street at around 3:30 p.m. Thursday. They say this is a suspicious death.

Corporal Frank Jang explains why investigators believe this was not random: “From what we know of the scene, the physical evidence, from what we see of the body and the reports that we’ve received from the first responders — our police officers from the Surrey RCMP that have reported back to our team.”

RCMP add a car was found on fire on 28th Avenue between 184 Street and 188 Street.

Jang says the two incidents may be related. “From speaking with the team, my understanding it that it has extensive damage it is burned right down to the frame. Right now we can’t tell the make or model.”

This area is known for some recent police activity. Last August, the body of 19-year-old Kiran Dhesi was found in a burned out car in the area of 24th Avenue between 184th and 188th Streets.

Police say both investigations are in their early stages.
