Crews battling two wildfires in Kamloops Fire region

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The BC Wildfire Service spent the night battling two blazes in the Kamloops Fire Centre region.

Information Officer Brenna Ward says the bigger of the two blazes, the Allie Lake wildfire, is burning northwest of Kamloops.

“The fire is estimated to be about 60 hectares and it is classified as out of control. We have ground crews and air support, which are both on scene.”

Fire Information Officer Brenna Ward says, it might seem like it’s early in the fire season, but spring fires are quite common, “especially given our current temperatures, our current indexes.”

“We are seeing the flooding in the lower areas, but where we’re not seeing flooding, it is still very dry,” she adds.

An evacuation alert has been issued for the area around the Xusum Creek fire, which is west of Lillooet. That fire is about 25 hecatres in size.

More crews and equipment are expected to arrive today to help battle the flames. No structures are threatened in either fire.
