VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – If you’re a renter or a landlord, the NDP’s Housing Task Force wants to hear from you. Vancouver-West End MLA, Spencer Chandra Herbert says they will be touring the province next month.
“We’re seeing advice from renters, from rental housing providers, non-profit housing providers–anybody who has an interest in the rental industry and rental housing,” he says. “We’re asking for their advice on the Residential Tenancy Act, the act that governs how renters and landlords work together.”
The task force will visit ten cities, starting on June 4th in Maple Ridge and will make stops in Nanaimo, Kelowna, Nelson, Terrace and Prince George, Salt Spring, Victoria, Vancouver and will wrap up in Surrey on June 28th.
“We’ll compile a report and submit it to the Minster of Housing and we will hopefully be seeing legislative change based on out recommendations next spring.”
The task force is leading a review to modernize and balance provincial tenancy laws to provide safe, secure and affordable housing.
