‘A magical story’: Golden Knights, Capitals to face-off in Game 2

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Hockey fans are getting ready to sit down for Game two of the Stanley Cup Final with the Vegas Golden Knights up on the Washington Capitals one-game-to-none.

Sportsnet 650‘s Chris Wahl says it seems like there is nothing the Cinderella squad from Sin City can’t do.

“It’s been a magical story. It’s really captivated I think not just the city of Las Vegas but the entire league. I think you’d be hard-pressed to find somebody who’s rooting for the Capitals no matter how good they are. I think everybody’s kind of jumped on this bandwagon and are really wishing for them to see it through.”

He says backing the expansion team is like backing baseball’s Chicago Cubs.

“You don’t expect anything from them, right? They kind of come together as this merry band of misfits at the start of the season, and nobody really expects they’ll do anything. It’s just so improbable, it’s just so unbelievable that it’s I think captivated people.”

With the Caps already down one-nothing in the series to the Golden Knights, Wahl adds you can expect the style of play to tighten up.

“I think tonight, going through the series is the two teams kind of maybe getting a little more familiar with one another, you’ll start to see a little bit tighter checking game.”

He says fans can thank goaltender Marc-André Fleury for the team’s success.

“Vegas does pull this thing off because he has been a rock. I mean maybe a bit of a blip on Monday night, where he allowed four goals, but multiple shut outs in the playoffs and it’s just key, clutch saves at key times in all three of the series wins that the Golden Knights have had.”

Game two of the final goes at 5:00 p.m. You can catch the game on Sportsnet 650.
