Rain, cool temps helping crews fighting BC wildfires

LILLOOET (NEWS 1130) – Some rain and cooler temperatures will help crews fighting forest fires around the province.

Kevin Skrepnek with the BC Wildfire Service says it’s a shift toward seasonal norms.

“Generally good news, in terms of the wildfire situation based on this shift in the weather, but definitely not a washout by any stretch of the imagination. And there are some areas wher the hazard is going to persist.”

The rain has also been lending a helping hand to firefighters.

“That’s a real key factor fo us in terms of fire activity. In other areas its still stayed relitvely dry, [but] definitely a shift for the better.”

The 500 hectare fire near Lillooet is 35 per cent contained while a huge, 20,000 hectare fire in the Peace Region continues to rage.
