Trump and Trudeau share laughs at G7 Summit

CHARLEVOIX, Que (NEWS 1130) – The G7 Summit in Charlevoix, Quebec appears to be getting off to a much better start than expected.

In fact, President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Trudeau were rather light-hearted as they held a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the summit, and revealed they are making some progress on some trade irritants.

Donald Trump went from calling Trudeau indignant, to laughing and cracking jokes with him about the ongoing tariff dispute about steel and aluminum.

Trump went on to say they are actually in talks to cut tariffs for both countries and while progress is being made they’ll see how it works out.

This is a big step forward in a tariff showdown that has seen Canada announce sweeping counter duties on US imports, although they don’t kick in until July 1st.

The Prime Minister says trade is being discussed but didn’t respond to Trump’s comments on NAFTA when he said he hopes to reach bilateral deals with Canada and Mexico. That’s an idea the Trudeau Government has rejected.
