VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A body has washed up near a popular Vancouver-area beach.
According to a release, the University RCMP was called out to reports of a body being found near Wreck Beach, which is in the Pacific Spririt Regional Park, on Monday.
The call came in around 3:00 p.m. from someone boating nearby, who police say “saw what he believed to be a body in the water some distance offshore from Wreck Beach.”
The Canadian Coast Guard, along with the Vancouver Police Marine Unit helped recover the body, which was then brought to Vanier Park Beach.
The RCMP and BC Coroners Service were both called in.
“We are continuing our fact-finding investigation to determine who died, by what means, when, where, and how,” explains Andy Watson with the Coroners Service.
Meantime, investigators say a sail boat and row boat have also been towed in for investigation. Both are believed to be connected to the body.
Few details are being released at this time, including an identity. “We’re working right now with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police to positively identify the deceased,” adds Watson.
