VICTORIA (NEWS 1130) – The mother of a Victoria-area teenager killed by school bullies more than 20 years ago has died.

Suman Virk’s family is describing her death over the weekend as a tragic accident.

She’s spoken to NEWS 1130 several times over the years about the loss of her daughter Reena in 1997. The last time was in November which marked the 20th anniversary of the 14-year-old’s death.

Reena Virk was beaten and drowned at the Gorge Waterway in 1997.

The Virk family has asked for privacy.

A memorial service for Suman is planned for Saturday afternoon.
