Alex Fraser Bridge improvements behind schedule

DELTA (NEWS 1130) – You’ll have to wait even longer for counterflow lanes on the Alex Fraser Bridge.

The province says the work won’t be finished this year, with completion now pushed back to summer 2019.

However, one part of the project will be introduced this week.

Lina Halwani with the Ministry of Transportation says new traffic lights at the Nordel Way merge will be turned on afternoon. “This way, it will be safer, more streamlined, so the merge will become a lot easier and more controlled.”

“We are expecting it to be fully operational this Wednesday, after the rush hour,” adds Halwani.

The province says Alex Fraser improvements have been delayed because more engineering work was required for both the cycling upgrades and the cable replacement process.
