Another scorcher today: Heat warning re-issued for Metro Vancouver, Fraser Valley

LOWER MAINLAND (NEWS 1130) – If you can beat the heat, it’s going to be another great day. Environment Canada has re-issued its heat warning for Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley.
NEWS 1130 Meteorologist Russ Lacate says today will be another scorcher, very similar to yesterday, when we set a number of local temperature records.
“We saw 24.5 at Point Atkinson. That was a new record high for the date. Further inland, we saw 31 in Agassiz, 33 in Pitt Meadows and towards the Interior, 37 degrees in Lilloet,” he explains.
The temperature in Comox hit 33 degrees, eclipsing the previous mark of 32 set back in 1958.
Nakusp saw the highest temperature in over 100 years, topping out at 32.9 degrees, while a 37-degree day in Pemberton surpassed the old record of 35 back in 1977.
Locally, Russ’ forecast for today includes highs between 25 on the beach and 32 in the eastern valley. He adds it’ll still be unseasonably warm tomorrow, with the heat expected to break in the second half of the week.
“We do get mainly sunny skies today and tomorrow. The marine wind really starts to influence the forecast for the long haul. The first day of summer is Thursday. It’ll be a mix of sun and cloud and about 23. By Friday, we’re even adding cooling showers to the forecast.”
