Police probing fatal motorcycle crash in New West

NEW WESTMINSTER (NEWS 1130) – Police in New West are looking into what caused a fatal motorcycle crash this morning.

Crews were called to 10th Ave near McBride Boulevard around 8:30 a.m. where a motorcycle and a car collided.

The driver of the motor bike succumbed to his injuries, no word on any injuries to the driver of the other car involved. So far, police don’t know if speed was a factor in the crash.

“It’s too early on in the investigation to determine who’s at fault or what the cause of the collision is, but we’d like to remind both drivers and motorcyclists to slow down and drive responsibly,” says NWPD Sergeant Jeff Scott.

As a result of the investigation, 10th Ave between McBride and 6th Street was closed for several hours this morning.

This crash is the latest in a handful of serious motorcycle crashes around Metro Vancouver. A number of police departments have recently reminded motorists to obey posted speed limits and keep an eye our for hard-to-see bikers as the weather warms up and more people head out to enjoy summer motorcycle rides.

If you have any information on the crash, or dash cam footage, call New West Police at 604-525-5411.
