Summer season starts with a cool down, but expected to be a long and hot one

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – If you like heat, the best season of the year has arrived. Summer officially arrived early this morning.

NEWS 1130 Meteorologist Russ Lacate says the season is going to start with a bit of a cool-down. “But hang in there! My prediction for summer has not changed from when we first started talking about this back in the middle of April.”

“It is going to be an unusually warm, dry and extended period of summer this year. And we’ve already had quite the sample of it through a good chunk of May and even in parts of June. We were breaking records for the past three consecutive days.”

But in the short term, things cool off. “It gets windier and cloudier this morning. Then we get some sunny breaks this afternoon with a high of about 23 degrees.”

Tomorrow looks even cloudier and cooler. Russ says the expected high will be 19, with some showers.

“But the sun is back this weekend, and that includes both afternoons,” he adds.
