IIO recommends further investigation into Burnaby RCMP officer

By

BURNABY (NEWS 1130) – A police-involved shooting in Burnaby more than three years ago warrants further investigation by the BC Prosecution Service. That’s the finding of the latest report by the province’s Independent Investigation Office.

The March 1st, 2015 incident involved a suspect shot by Mounties after a robbery at the 7-Eleven on the corner of Canada Way and Edmonds. The wound was not life-threatening and a second suspect was arrested without incident.

The IIO has forwarded a report suggesting proper protocols may not have been followed. Crown lawyers must now determine if charges are warranted against the officer.

The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
