VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – It’s not just his Twitter handle, he calls Vancouver home, and now Ryan Reynolds is adding his voice to save a landmark.

The Rio was showing a double feature of both Deadpool  and Deadpool 2, when suddenly Reynolds showed up via a video message.

WARNING: This video contains coarse language.

He’s in New York right now but wanted to thank the crowd anyway.

“Thank you for standing up for what is right, something that is amazing, something that is just, which is the Rio Theatre. It’s a landmark, it’s an institution in Vancouver and I know how fleeting institutions like that are, landmarks are like that in Vancouver because Vancouver is a city that tends to grow,” Reynolds says in the video.

The campaign wants to raise $3 million with the rest paid by other investments.

The deadline to buy the Rio Theatre is July 7th.
