Organizers of LGBTQ party at Trump Tower looking for new venue

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The party is on hold as organizers of a LGBTQ pool party that was set to take place at Trump Tower are now looking for a new venue.

Andrea Arnot with the Vancouver Pride Society is clarifying some of the details surrounding this story.

First, she explains the Pride Society isn’t affiliated with the event.

“We have a community calendar on our website and we allow community organizations and event promoters to create an account and put their listings up and that event is not affiliated with Vancouver Pride in anyway.”

She points out it was an event promoter putting up the pool listing. “And we even check out listings to make sure they’re for the queer community and that they’re appropriate.”

Arnot admits they missed the listing being posted. “A community member pointed it out to us, so we removed it right away and contacted the event organizer and they, obviously, received feedback.”

She says once they found out where the event was being held, they pulled their support.

“We don’t want to support Trump family corporation in any way whatsoever and the event organizers have heard that as well and are looking for an alternative location.”

Arnot is relieved the organizers were willing to change their plans. “It’s our busy time and sometimes we miss things, so we’re open to feedback. We’re really happy the event promoter also listened to community feedback because… if people actually listen to what the community has to say and can rectify things when they think that’s the positive way for everyone to work together and move forward.”

The party was supposed to take place on Aug. 4 at Drai’s Vancouver nightclub which is at the Trump Tower in Downtown Vancouver located at 1161 West Georgia Street.
