Two pedestrians, three VPD officers hurt in collision

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The independent police watchdog has been called in after two Vancouver Police cruisers were involved in a crash.

Three officers and two pedestrians — both women in their 30s — were hurt and taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The Independent Investigations Office is now trying to figure out whether the injuries meet “the threshold of serious harm” caused by an officer.

According to the VPD, the collision happened in the downtown area at the intersection of Smithe and Howe Streets on Friday at around 8:30 p.m.

Both police cars were said to have been responding to a call with lights and sirens on when the crash happened. No other cars were in involved.

The VPD is also looking into what may have caused the collision. They’re looking to speak with anyone who may have witnessed the crash.

If you have any information, you’re asked to call 604.717.3012.
