Unsung Hero: Local teen helps feed students in need

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Congratulations to our latest Unsung Hero, Brady Lumsden. He was nominated for the award by Elizabeth Woznica.

Brady is part of a student-led initiative called Weekend Fuelbag. The group helps provide Langley students in need with food.

By working with local sponsors and partners, the initiative rounds up food for children every weekend, 52 weeks a year.

“By supporting Weekend Fuelbag you are enabling students to take control of circumstances they did not decide and allowing them to break the cycle of poverty,” says the group on its website.

“Our vision is that all students have access to the same opportunities to be successful. It takes a caring community to create change, every person can, and must step up and be the difference-maker that will benefit all of society.”

Here’s what Elizabeth had to say:

Brady is an amazing 17 year old at Walnut Grove Secondary! I had the honor of meeting him a few weeks ago and since, I’ve been on a mission to help him and his amazing cause!

I wrote, and had published (twice) a letter to several local papers outlining what he’s doing and the need for help from our community.

Please help me to help Brady with his amazing cause. Read his story at weekendfuelbag.ca and then decide.

Alpine Credits is acknowledging Brady with $500 to say thanks for stepping up and is also making a $1,000 donation to the Ronald McDonald House Children’s Charity.
