Head of Metro Vancouver Transit Police taking early retirement

NEW WESTMINSTER (NEWS 1130) – Metro Vancouver needs a new Transit Police Chief because the current one is retiring.
Doug LePard has confirmed his last day will be August 31st.
Anne Drennan with Transit Police says his contract was supposed to last five years.
“Because of changes in his personal life, he has decided to leave after 2.5 years. We’ll miss him very much because he’s been a tremendous chief, but we also understand, while it’s very difficult, it’s something we would all support him in doing. He is retiring for personal reasons. After careful consideration over the last few months, he has decided to retire now. He says it’s a very personal decision to transition to the next stage of his life.”
LePard’s been a police officer more than 37 years and most of that time was with the Vancouver Police force.
His interim replacement is Deputy Chief Barry Kross.
