Surrey’s Canada Cup softball tournament starts Friday, rain or shine

SURREY (NEWS 1130) – There’s no rain in the forecast for the next week or so and that’s welcome news for a big outdoor event in Surrey.

The Canada Cup starts on Friday at Softball City. Tournament Chair Greg Timm says 1,200 athletes are hoping it stays dry.

“Doesn’t look like there’s any rain in the forecast for the next 10 days, so hopefully this year we’ll get through it without any precipitation.”

He says they’ve had good luck when it comes to the weather.

“We’ve never, in our 24 years doing this tournament, we’ve never missed awarding a championship cup at the end of the tournament.”

Timm says if there are rain delays during the Canada Cup, they have a contingency plan which includes extending games into the evening hours.

The Canada Cup runs from this Friday until the 22nd with games being played at Softball City, Cloverdale Athletic Park, and Sunnyside Park.
