Semi rollover leads to 12-hour closure of southbound Knight Street Bridge

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Traffic heading into Richmond from Vancouver on Thursday afternoon was down to a crawl, due to a closure on the Knight Street Bridge.

A semi flipped over at the north end of the bridge just after 2 p.m. leading to an initial full closure of the bridge.

Northbound traffic re-opened a couple hours later, but southbound didn’t re-open until about 2 a.m.

“Our crews were attending a grass fire at 63rd and Knight Street when they witnessed a semi truck heading southbound onto the Knight Street bridge from the on ramp tip over, and block all the southbound lanes,” explains Vancouver Fire’s Captain Jonathan Gormick.

Vancouver Fire’s Heavy Rescue Team were able to get one patient out of the truck, but no details about any injuries have been released.

It’s unclear what caused the semi to flip, and there’s no word on when exactly the bridge will reopen.
