DELTA (NEWS 1130) – If you’re feeling the need for speed or are just in the mood to see some vintage planes and aerial acrobatics, Delta’s the place to be today.
The Boundary Bay Airshow has taken over the skies.
“We have something kind of interesting this year,” Delta mayor Lois Jackson says. “We’ve got the Misty Blues Skydiving Team, and they’re all women. It’s a whole women’s team of skydivers. It’s going to be really fun.”
But that’s not the only high-flying act. The Yellow Thunder Formation Aerobatic Team will also perform, and you’ll even get the chance to meet former Snowbird pilot Vicky Benzing. Jackson adds not all the fun is up in the air — there’s also a race taking place, but not one you’d typically see.
“We have something kind of different where we have a plane and a car and they race down the speedway (runway) and we see who wins, whether it’s the car or the plane. It’s kind of fun.”
Parking and admission are both free.
If you do decide to head out to take in the festivities, you’re encouraged to bring sunglasses, a hat and sunscreen and a folding chair.
