VPD say there's no risk to the public after a woman was killed in Downtown Vancouver

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Major Crime investigators are asking for the public’s help after a woman’s body was found in a suite on Granville Street in Downtown Vancouver early Wednesday morning.

At around 4:30 a.m. on Aug. 1, police were called to the Regal Hotel on Granville Street near Helmcken Street about a strong odour on the second floor. Officers located the dead woman inside.

Police say the victim has been identified as a 31-year-old from Vancouver, although her name isn’t being released until her family has been notified.

“No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing. Detectives do not believe this was a random event and advise that there is no risk to the general public,” says Constable Jason Doucette who adds the woman was not a resident of the Regal Hotel.

“Trying to determine how long the victim was in the room for will form an important part of the investigation. We will be speaking to witnesses, looking for video and collecting evidence that will help solve this homicide,” adds Doucette.

This is city’s 13th homicide in 2018.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call detectives are 604.717.2500 or Crime Stoppers at 1.800.222.8477.
