No injuries following house fire in Surrey

SURREY (NEWS 1130) – No injuries were reported after a home was engulfed in flames in Surrey Tuesday afternoon.

Surrey Fire says the call came in around 6:30 p.m. about a house fire on 96 Avenue.

“When crews arrived on scene one side of the duplex was fully engulfed and through the roof,” said Battalion Fire Chief Reo Jerome.

He said the fire is now under control but crews will remain at the scene for a few more hours.

“We got a little more clean up to do here and look after the stubborn hot spots.”

He says a neighbouring home suffered some damage due to flying ember but firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading any further.

At the peak of the fire, about 22 firefighters were battling the flames.

Smoke could be seen kilometres away.

The cause of the fire is still unknown but Jerome said an investigation will be taking place Wednesday morning.
