Pressure cooker IED, $1.6M in cash and jewellery, 50kg of drugs seized in gang bust

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Police are calling it one of the most successful gang crime investigations in B.C. history.
A pressure cooker improvised explosive device has been seized, along with 93 firearms and about 50 kg of drugs (including 9.5 kg of fentanyl) in a gang bust. More than $800,000 in cash, another $800,000 worth of jewellery, and collector cars valued at $350,000 was also seized.
Police have not said who had possession of the pressure cooker bomb or what it was intended for.
The seizure was the result of “Project Territory,” which was completed by Task Force Tourniquet, which is made up of officers from the VPD, Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of BC (CFSEU-BC), the RCMP, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT), as well as other police departments.
Police say 93 firearms and 59 prohibited devices were also taken off the streets. VPD Superintendent Mike Porteus says “Project Territory” led to total of ninety-two charges laid against 14 people “who belong to the Kang and Latimer organization and/or the Red Scorpians gang.”
“The Kang/Latimer organization was known to be in conflict with the Brothers Keepers group, the Sandhu-Sidhu group, and other crime groups in the Lower Mainland,” he adds.
A list of 10 “unindicted co-conspirators” include Jamie Bacon and Cody Haevischer.
Haevischer was convicted of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder for the Surrey Six killings. He was sentenced to life with no chance of parole for 25 years.
Bacon was charged with murder and conspiracy. Those charges were later stayed.
