Photos: Apocalyptic skies seen in parts of B.C. as raging wildfires continue

BRITISH COLUMBIA (NEWS 1130) – As more than 600 wildfires continue to burn across the province, residents shared images of the smoky skies on social media.

Many of the photos were from Prince George residents who captured an apocalyptic-looking evening as smoke darkened the sky.

Marie Dimmery and her family moved to Summit Lake a few months ago from Chilliwack. She says she was speechless when she saw the sky.

“This was truly unnerving for us to be in such a remote location and have it be dark.”

She says there are only a few houses on her street, noting it felt like a scene out of a “horror movie.”

“It’s the silence that made it so eery because there is always some noise from the lake with birds, boats, etc,” she says. “Our yard is usually full of birds; it was silent. Truly eery.”.

And she wasn’t the only one, many others also took photos of the darkened skies.

Multiple residents across the province have been placed under evacuation alerts and evacuation orders.

An air quality remains in effect for many parts of B.C. and it’s expected to last until the end of the week.
