More parents doing back-to-school shopping online: poll

CALGARY – Can you get the best deals for clothing, backpacks, and laptops online?

Two-thirds of Canadians seem to think so. According to an Ebates Canada survey, the annual back to school ritual is evolving, with most parents planning to shop online this year for back to school.

The poll talked to a sample of 1,010 Canadians back in June and 67 per cent of people are planning to do at least some online back to school shopping.

The same percentage said they’d be searching retailer websites for deals, something Ebates says is the appeal of buying clothes, electronics, and backpacks online.

Shoppers are searching for promo codes and online coupons, 28 per cent using social media sites like Facebook, Pinterest, and Instagram for deals.

It’s not surprising parents are looking to save some cash as spending on back to school has more than doubled in four years. Those who responded also said online shopping helps save time and stress.

On average Canadians are expected to spend $166 per child this year.
