IHIT called in after Surrey man found dead in parking lot

By

SURREY (NEWS 1130) – Homicide investigators are trying to piece together the final hours of a man found dead in a parking lot near 96th Ave. and 128 St. last night.

The victim has been identified as 48-year-old Lakhwinder Singh Bal of Surrey. Police say he was previously known to them, but his death is not believed to be gang-related.

“We need those who knew Mr. Bal to come forward and assist our investigators in piecing together a timeline of his activities leading up to his death,” says Cpl. Frank Jang with the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT). “We need the community to partner with IHIT to solve Mr. Bal’s murder.”

Initially, Mounties were called to a fight near a McDonalds restaurant at around 9 p.m. First responders arrived to find Bal unresponsive. He later died in the hospital of unspecified injuries.

IHIT has not yet confirmed any arrests.

96 Ave. will be closed for most of the day between 128 St. and 130 St. as the investigation continues.
