Mother charged in Langley girl’s death

LANGLEY (NEWS 1130) – The mother of a seven-year-old girl who was killed in Langley has been charged with murder.

On July 22, 2018, Aaliyah Rosa was found dead in an apartment building near 200 St. and 68 Ave.

Her mother, Kerryann Lewis, 36, is now charged with second-degree murder.

Lewis was taken to the hospital that night. Police confirm she received treatment, but are not sharing any further details.

Cpl. Frank Jang said the process isn’t done. “It’s now with Crown Counsel and certainly, our investigators, who will be supporting the prosecution.”

He would not discuss any possible motive. “That’s going to now be before the courts.”

At the time, homicide investigators would only confirm that the case involved “people who were known to each other.”

Jang would not discuss the accused’s history.

“We know that this is troubling news for the community, and it certainly is for Aaliyah’s family,” said Jang.

“It touched a lot of people in the community, for sure. Today, there is news of charge approval in this case, but there are no winners. Seven-year-old Aaliyah is still not with us. Her family has to pick up the pieces and continue on with life without her.”

Lewis appears in court on Monday.
