SURREY (NEWS1130) – Not everyone had a happy New Year. A man is dead after he was hit by a car Thursday night. Surrey RCMP say it happened before 8 p.m., around 126th Street and 69th Avenue. The victim, who is in his early 50’s, walked out onto the road and investigators say the driver tried to avoid hitting him but the roads were slick.
He was wearing dark clothing at the time and eventually died of massive head injuries in hospital. RCMP believe speed and alcohol were not factors.
Meanwhile, RCMP were also called to a house party in Cloverdale around 74th Avenue and 188th Street just after 2 a.m. They found a 22-year-old man with several stab wounds, he is now in hospital. RCMP are still talking to witnesses. No arrests have been made and there’s no word on the condition of the victim.
