Canuck Ryan Kesler’s comments make him fan favourite for a trade on deadline day

By

VANCOUVER(NEWS1130) – Kesler made no friends in friendly Canada during the 2010 Winter Games, dissing the hometown fans, Team Canada and golden boy Roberto Luongo.  On the streets, a lot of people are hoping the Canucks will ship him out before the NHL trade deadline. “So all the rest of the year has a Canuck in name only? He’s an American at heart! Even David Letterman sang the Canadian anthem on Monday night. Trade the traitor!”

When you ask Geoff Rohoman in the News1130 Sports Centre, he says the Canucks would be insane to trade him. “Kesler is in the last year of a three year deal he signed in 2007, but he’s 24 and this season will make under two million bucks. And for a second line forward who leads the team in power play points, I would be shocked if he’s moved unless the Canucks get a first line player back or a ‘top two’ defenceman plus a draft pick.”

Kesler’s Canuck teammates insist he’s intense, but it was all just tongue-in-cheek trash talk.
