Vancouver Art Gallery chooses new location

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – After six years of debate, the Vancouver Art Gallery has finally chosen a location for its new home, the old bus depot location on Dunsmuir, next to the Queen Elizabeth Theatre.

The new building is expected to cost around $300 million.  It’s scheduled to be completed by 2015, funded with a combination of public and private money.  The Gallery has complained the current building on Robson, the old courthouse building, is too small for its collection of 10,000 pieces. The Gallery adds the space is not large enough to accommodate major exhibitions and ever-expanding educational and public programs.
