Boat presumed to be in distress found by Coast Guard

VICTORIA (NEWS1130) – The search for a boat presumed to be in distress has been called off.  Earlier today Victoria rescue coordination centre was looking for the owner of the sailing vessel after its emergency distress beacon has been activated.

Dan Bate with the Coast Guard says the boat has now been located in a marina. “After some searching of the Vancouver area, the rescue center has been able to locate the sail boat. As it turns out, the rescue beacon that the owner had on board was defective and it was repeatedly going off.”

Vancouver Police have contacted the owner and say he is safe and sound. The ship had a history of accidental activation.
