Stores open 24 hours a day for Christmas shopping

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Every day is a shopping day before Christmas; in some cases, every hour is. Places like Walmart and Superstore never close at this time of year.

This morning, people could be seen shopping as early as 4:30 a.m. One man tells us, “It’s good times, it’s nice and quiet here. It works for me, because I’m working right now actually. I shouldn’t even be here, but I’m taking my lunch break.”

Bobby tells us, “I get off work at 4:30 in the morning, and it beats the rush … People do it to avoid that rush. There was mom and dad pushing the kids in the cart. Kids were asleep – well, mom and dad were asleep too – but they were shopping at 3:30 in the morning.”

The busiest time overnight is the lead-up to around 1 a.m., even on a weeknight. Christmas shoppers are hauling out TVs and other purchases. Some love it, while others suggest it’s a sad sign that we feel our lives are so busy we have to shop for Christmas when we should be sleeping.
