Winter Classic to be played under the stars

By

PITTSBURGH, PA (NEWS 1130) – The fourth annual NHL Winter Classic will be played under the lights instead of during the day tonight.

This will be the first time the annual game will be played at night. Bad weather is the concern with temperatures being ideal, but rain in the forecast is causing havoc. The game features two of the Eastern Conferences top teams and superstars, as Sidney Crosby’s Pittsburgh Penguins face off against Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals.

The annual New Years Day game has been a huge success for the NHL in it’s first three years. This year’s game, however, is one of significance because of the exposure it’s gained through HBO’s 24/7 special. The popular cable network has been following both teams leading up to the game with a weekly hour show focusing on the behind the scenes events for both the Pens and Caps while they make their way to the outdoor showdown.

Game time now is scheduled for 5 p.m. pacific time.
