SAN JOSE, CA (NEWS1130) – Milos Raonic wins his first ATP tour final in straight sets. The six foot six, right hander, downed number one seed and defending champ, Fernando Verdasco of Spain 7-6, 7-6.

Both players held serve in both sets. Raonic fought off four set points in the first set. He won the last six points of the first set tie breaker to win 7-6. Raonic’s serve was lethal, as he rocketed thirteen aces by Verdasco. He led the tournament with 58 aces even though he didn’t play a semi-final match because his opponent forfeited due to injury.

The Ontario native pocketed US $92,000 for the victory. He has moved from 84th in the men’s rankings up to 59th. He is the first Canadian to win on the ATP tour since Greg Rusedski in April of 1995.
