Whitecaps FC blanked in Philly

CHESTER, PA (NEWS1130) – Whitecaps FC lost 1-0 in Philadelphia. Carlos Ruiz scored the only goal in the 77th minute. Vancouver striker Eric Hassli was ejected after receiving his second yellow card in the 57th minute.
The Union applied plenty of pressure once the Whitecaps were down to ten men. Ruiz tapped the ball into an open net on a nice feed by Sebastien Le Toux inside the six yard box. Veteran goalie Joe Cannon played in goal for Vancouver, as Jay Nolly missed the game because of a shoulder injury.
Vancouver played without starting defenders Jay DeMerit and Michael Boxall, who were playing internationally.
Whitecaps FC hosts Sporting Kansas City next Saturday afternoon at Empire Field.
