Canada to face a nemesis in the Swiss

By

KOSICE, SLOVAKIA (NEW1130) – Revenge will be on the slate when Team Canada faces Switzerland on Tuesday morning at the IIHF World Hockey Championships.

The Swiss beat Canada 4-1 in last year’s tournament in Germany where Canada finished seventh, its worst finish at the World’s since 1992.

Switzerland have been giving Canada tough games dating back to the 2006 Olympics in Turin where the Swiss stunned the Canadians 2-0. Switzerland came close to upsetting Canada on home ice in last year’s Olympic games in Vancouver. The underdog Swiss took the host team to a shootout with Canadian captain Sidney Crosby scoring the winner in a 3-2 win.

Last year’s loss in Germany will be fresh in the minds of Brent Burns, Matt Duchene, Jordan Eberle, Devan Dubnyk, John Tavares and Evander Kane who are the six returning players on the roster for Canada.

Kane, a native of Vancouver, has one assist in this year’s tournament . His Atlanta Thrashers teammate Andrew Ladd from Maple Ridge, has yet to register a point. Kane and Ladd are the only players on this year’s Canadian team that are from British Columbia.

Game time on Tuesday morning is 7:30 a.m.
