UPDATE: Ryan Miller, a man charged for involvement in a crash that killed two little boys and left their brother paralyzed in 2008, has been released from custody by a Port Coquitlam judge on a promise to appear.

RICHMOND (NEWS1130) – A man wanted for his involvement in a crash that killed two little boys and left their brother paralyzed has been arrested at YVR.  Twenty-nine-year-old Ryan Miller had taken off to Australia after the crash in 2008.

It was November 2008 when a van with the kids inside sat broken down in the eastbound HOV lane of Highway One near the Port Mann Bridge.

A BMW that police say was driven by Miller slammed into that van at full speed.  RCMP Sergeant Peter Thiessen was at the scene and says it was painful to watch the family’s grief.

“Well I clearly recall this particular file.  I was at the scene at the time of the incident and had ongoing contact with the family.  It was terribly excruciating to see what this family was going through.  The loss of two young boys plus the permanent injuries to a third.  It was something and is something that is etched in my memory as one of the most tragic incidents that I’ve ever been involved in.”

Two adults were also severely hurt in the crash.

Thiessen says the 29-year-old Miller left for Australia immediately after being charged with driving without due care and attention.

Miller is scheduled to appear at Provincial Court in Port Coquitlam this afternoon.
