Cop who dealt drugs craved excitement: psychologist

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) –  There’s been some lively testimony at the sentencing hearing of a former VPD officer who pleaded guilty to drug trafficking.

Peter Hodson has already been fired from his job and now faces jail time.

Psychologist Dr. Michael Elterman was asked to explain why an officer of the law, Hodson. would break the law and sell drugs. Elterman says Hodson has an underlying need for excitement – a “rush” – that he didn’t get from police work.

The Crown asked Elterman why he hadn’t read its report on Hodson, claiming that failing to do so could have skewed his assessment of the former officer.

Elterman defended his report, saying he understands Hodson’s crimes and much of his report was not favourable to the former officer.
