News1130’s Andy Walsh to be added to News Hall of Fame

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It’s a big honour for one of our own.

News1130’s Andy Walsh will be added to the Canadian News Hall of Fame this year. He tells us he couldn’t believe his eyes when he heard he would be honoured this year. “I was checking [my email] and saw it on there… I nearly fell off the chair!”

“It was a shock,” he says. “It’s very humbling. I find that after putting in that many years, I’m sure there are many before me that could probably deserve the same award and probably haven’t received it. But I feel very lucky, indeed.”

“As my daughter-in-law pointed out… Now I can officially be called a legend!” he laughs. Walsh has been in the radio biz since 1951, starting in Cornwall, Ontario.

You can visit Andy at the PNE tomorrow. He’ll be at the News1130 booth 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

There will be a gala banquet in Toronto this November to celebrate. Lloyd Robertson, who retires from broadcasting today, will also be inducted.
