Surrey’s Loewen leads Jays to victory in Boston

By

BOSTON, MA (NEWS1130) – Surrey’s Adam Loewen hit a two-run single to lift the Toronto Blue Jays to a 5-4 win over the Red Sox in Boston.  Loewen’s hit came in a three-run eighth inning of their series finale at Fenway Park.

The 27-year-old, a former first round draft pick (4th overall in 2002) of the Baltimore Orioles saw his big league pitching career end with a second elbow injury back in 2008 but battled back to the majors as a positional player.

The former UBC left-hander, was recalled two weeks ago after a breakout season in AAA Las Vegas, where he was hitting .306 with 17 homers.  He and fellow BC native Brett Lawrie have impressed during their recent promotions from the minors.  Lawrie’s hitting heroics have arguably overshadowed Loewen’s play but the two are making a case to be permanent Blue Jays.
