VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A company that prevents wildfires will now be supplying information to Environment Canada to help predict and control future outbreaks.
“[The fire danger signs] are the coloured signs from green to red that tell you the likelihood of fire,” says Forest Technology Systems CEO David Illing. “Those signs are fed by weather information and by forest environment information gathered from mountain tops all across North America.”
His company provides the equipment that gathers and transmits the information to update the signs, and will now be working with Environment Canada’s water survey division, which monitors streams, rivers and waterways.
“It involves telecommunication, software, hardware design, mechanical design, so a pretty broad spectrum of technologies,” he explains.
