Latest round of sniffles likely just a head cold

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – If you were coughing or sneezing in the last couple of weeks and it felt like the flu, it probably wasn’t.  The illness keeping people out of commission is probably just a head cold.

We asked people on the streets of Vancouver how they’re feeling.  We caught up with one man whose daughter is missing school today because she’s sick and he was in the same boat just a few weeks ago.

“Before I got the flu shot, I just got it last month, but before that I did have it.  It felt like the flu but it just came and went.”

A bus driver in Vancouver says he hasn’t been sick yet this season but he’s around germs and sick people all day.  “During the winter season you get more people that are coming aboard, they’re sniffling, they’re coughing, they’re sneezing and wiping their nose with Kleenex.”

Data suggests several viruses that cause influenza like illness could be the culprits triggering head colds.  But you’re not out of the clear just yet because flu activity is starting to spread now.
