Superhero-clad teens may be helping police, despite scolding

By

CHILLIWACK (NEWS1130) – Teens scolded for dressing up as superheroes and busting suspected child predators may be helping police after all.  A photo the teens posted on YouTube last year has resurfaced in a news release from the RCMP.

The vigilante videos called “To Troll a Predator” show teens dressed in superhero costumes approaching men who believe they are meeting someone they talked to online.

Police publicly frowned upon the teens’ actions, but Chilliwack Mounties tell News1130 in an email that a photo they sent out this morning of a man they were looking to find is linked to the videos. The incident has prompted an investigation.

In fact, they suggest there are other cases the teens may have opened.

“Yes, this stems from the same investigation,” writes Cst. Tracy Wolbeck. “Once this investigation has been complete (sic), there will be a summary release outlining the investigations that took place as a result of the young men in costumes.”

The person of interest in that photo has since been identified, according to Wolbeck.
