TORONTO, ON (NEWS1130) – Toronto FC blanked Whitecaps FC 1-0 in the second leg of the Voyageurs Cup. TFC wins the title by an aggregate score of 2-1.
Reggie Lambe scored the lone goal of the contest in the 83rd minute.
Toronto scored an all important away goal at BC Place on May 16 in a 1-1 draw, which meant the Caps needed at least a goal in the second leg in Toronto.
The first half was uneventful, however 10 minutes into the second half, there was a kerfuffle. TFC’s Julian de Guzman and Vancouver’s Sebastien Le Toux were both sent off after receiving red cards.
Lambe’s goal came as Vancouver’s defence was struggling to clear the ball from around the 18 yard box.
After the game, Whitecaps Coach Martin Rennie was not pleased with the referee, suggesting Toronto official Silviu Petrescu should not have been in charge of a final.
TFC represents Canada in the 2012 -2013 CONCACAF Champions League.
